Future Beau?

Kaya met Emerson Trey this past weekend and was quite enamored with her younger friend – they went rock climbing together.  Turns out they have a lot in common: They both have Chicco Keyfit 30 carseats, they both sport furry coats with ears and pants with feet, they both like romantic dates by the fire, and their parents are both (all) awesome.

Happy Thanksgiving

A special thanks to the Ryder family for welcoming us into their homes to celebrate Thanksgiving.  It was a wonderful holiday and the food was amazing.  Mmmmm Thanksgiving – I already can’t wait until next year (wherever that may be).

Doubled!

It’s official – Kaya has doubled in size!  She was born 6 lbs, 9 oz and weighed in at 13 lbs 2 oz today.  Babies are supposed to double their birthweight by 6 months, so we are well in the clear for that milestone.  She’s also gone from 17th percentile in weight to about 50th.  My baby can eat!  (sorry for the f’ed up graph cropping, I’m too cheap to buy photoshop)

Bon Voyage

We applied for Kaya’s passport last weekend.  The rules for getting a baby a passport are remarkably strict: Both parents have to show up in person with their passports with the baby, the baby’s birth certificate, photo, social security card, a completed application, and an $80 money order.  We managed to bring everything, but our photo was rejected because of “too many shadows.”  Conveniently, they took the photo for us again, for a mere $15.  But, hopefully Kaya will be getting her passport in the mail soon.  Now we just need to plan a trip.  Here’s our rejected photo:

First Snow

We had our first snow here this week – it was a disgusting, wet snow and has luckily melted by now (in fact, it’s currently 61 degrees out).  Kaya had to stay inside ALL DAY at school (they usually go to the park for a couple of hours per day).  Here’s a picture of Max taking her to school:

Happiest baby on the block

According to Dr.Harvey Karp, author of The Happiest Baby on the Block, Kaya has officially finished her fourth trimester and now is a legitimate infant (instead of a fetus living outside the womb).  His 5 S’s (swaddle, side, shush, swing, and suck) got us through the first 3 months quite successfully.  And I’m pretty sure Kaya is the happiest baby on the block – although I also think she is the only baby on our block.
