Great weekend

We had a great time staying home this weekend – a much needed Durham-centric no-plans weekend. Saturday we went to Waffle House, then to the sprayground, then home for lunch and nap. Then we picked up Yoya and sandwiches from Fosters and went to a live reggae concert at a local park which was tons of fun. Today we went to Guglhupf and then home to play legos and do laundry. Then we went to play with Channa’s new baby Alvin and to the pool. Kaya was so exhausted she fell asleep on the way home and never woke up. And I only took one picture all weekend:

Genetics

Me: “Laney is fussing. Kaya, can you get her a toy to play with?
Kaya: “Yes.” Hands Laney a fake butcher knife – Laney brightens immediately. Interesting.

And I’ve included a picture of the escaped murderer in New York. Coincidence? sweattom

First Haircut

Kaya got her first haircut this weekend. Sort of. I couldn’t bear to actually cut her hair, so I just had them trim about an inch off. That took some of her curls away but didn’t actually get rid of much of her beautiful hair. Baby steps are all I can handle.

Beaver Queen

We experienced the glory that is the Durham Beaver Queen Pageant this weekend – Kaya even wore her beaver tail for a little while. There’s no better event filled with fun, dancing, and sexual innuendo all year.

Run Yoya Run!

Congrats to Yoya for running a half marathon on Saturday in Raleigh. We made a sign to cheer her on (although we barely made it to the finish line in time to see Lightning Laura finish the race) and Kaya drew a picture of Laura running on a race track that was really quite good for a two year old. Go Yoya!

Chi-Town

I spent last weekend at ASCO – a massive annual oncology meeting in Chicago. It was exhausting (perhaps even more exhausting than taking care of two babies) but very worthwhile. Here’s a picture of me “networking.”

Lake beach

While Yoya and Dylan snuck off for an anniversary “hike” while we were camping, we took the girls down to the lake beach. It was perfect weather (although the water was a bit cold) and Kaya loves playing in the sand. The only thing missing was Max, who wasn’t allowed on the beach and instead had to go “hiking.”

The Kingdom 6

We took the girls camping this weekend at Hanging Rock State Park with Yoya and Dylan.  The weather was absolutely perfect and we got to try out our new SUV of a tent. Poor Yoya and Dylan had to sleep super close to our whiny children and our mammoth tent! (I also want to point out that every other family in the campground also had a Kingdom 6). Yoya tried to escape but couldn’t make it all the way up Hanging Rock.

Food

Six month birthdays mean time for solids! So far Laney has had some sweet potatoes, which may have made her tummy hurt. Next up: apple sauce (although not too much because the first time we gave Kaya applesauce, she didn’t poop for 4 days).
