Bon Voyage

We applied for Kaya’s passport last weekend.  The rules for getting a baby a passport are remarkably strict: Both parents have to show up in person with their passports with the baby, the baby’s birth certificate, photo, social security card, a completed application, and an $80 money order.  We managed to bring everything, but our photo was rejected because of “too many shadows.”  Conveniently, they took the photo for us again, for a mere $15.  But, hopefully Kaya will be getting her passport in the mail soon.  Now we just need to plan a trip.  Here’s our rejected photo:

First Snow

We had our first snow here this week – it was a disgusting, wet snow and has luckily melted by now (in fact, it’s currently 61 degrees out).  Kaya had to stay inside ALL DAY at school (they usually go to the park for a couple of hours per day).  Here’s a picture of Max taking her to school:

Happiest baby on the block

According to Dr.Harvey Karp, author of The Happiest Baby on the Block, Kaya has officially finished her fourth trimester and now is a legitimate infant (instead of a fetus living outside the womb).  His 5 S’s (swaddle, side, shush, swing, and suck) got us through the first 3 months quite successfully.  And I’m pretty sure Kaya is the happiest baby on the block – although I also think she is the only baby on our block.

Friends

Kaya’s new friend Summer came all the way from Texas to celebrate Halloween at the Rose household.  They haven’t exactly learned to play together yet – but Kaya learned how to roll over (front to back) while sharing her play mat with Summer.  I predict a wonderful friendship in the future.
